Davanagere,Election-2007
On 02-01-07, Davanagere City Municipal Council period
was ended. As per the notification No. UDD 45 MLR 2006, the
government of Karnataka had appointed the Deputy Commissioner MR. M
B Dyaberi as the administrator of City Municipal, Davanagere.
The City Municipal Council has upgraded as
City
Corporation
on 6th jan, 2007 as per the Government notification No.
UDD 97 MLR 2006. The deputy commissioner Mr. M B Dyaberi has been
continued as the administrator in respect of the City Corporation Davanagere.
The
State Election Commission had announced maiden general election
calendar for city corporation in the month of September, 2007.
Accordingly 8 election officers have been appointed for 41 wards. As
per the election notification the following dates have been notified
as detailed below.

Nominations withdrawal from the candidates.
Election was held on 28-09-2007, but the Deputy
Commissioner Mr. M B Dyaberi ordered for repolling in the booth
No.63 of ward -7, in Azad Nagar on 29-09-2007. The decision was
taken following the state election commissions instruction as the
booth in charge officer Vidwan Umesh failed to use prescribed voters
list while discharging his duty. The officer has been suspended
under Karnataka Municipal Corporation (Election) rules 1979 section
26.
Counting for the election was held at the premises
of ITI college, Davanagere. Counting process began at 8 am and
completed by 7.30 pm. Except few stray incidents, the election for Davanagere City corporation concluded peacefully.
Of 41 wards, for which
election was held , the BJP secured 21 seats and congress satisfied
with only 10 seats. Janatadala and Independent won 6 and 4 seats
respectively.
The BJP got clear majority in the maiden election for
Davanagere City Corporation, pushing congress to the corner.

exercise of the powers conferred by section 509 of the Karnataka Muncipal Corporation Act, 1976 (Karnataka Ac t 14 of 1977) as per the
notification No. UDD 45 MLR 2006 (B-19), the Government of Karnataka
hereby appoints the Deputy Commissioner of Davanagere District as
the Administrator in respect of the DAVANAGERE City
Corporation, till the council of DAVANAGERE City Corporation
is duly constituted.
